A Hokie is … an avid supporter of Virginia Tech athletics.

The Hokie Nation is real because … Hokies come together in triumph and in tragedy, supporting one another as a family because our connection to the University is strong and binding.

Reggie, Jen and Samantha West

What is your best memory of Virginia Tech Athletics? Travis Jackson’s winning three-point shot in the 1995 NIT game against New Mexico State at Cassell Coliseum…and watching the team go on to win the NIT that year.

How did you get involved with the Hokie Club? Attended a Regional Event on the Orange & Maroon Tour, met some really great people and decided to get involved.

What caused you to become a fan of Virginia Tech? We are both alumni of Virginia Tech and Hokie sports have been a big part of our lives since we were students.

Do you have any game day superstitions? If so, what are they? We have to listen to Tech Triumph and the VPI Victory March first thing when we leave for a game and last thing on the way back, win or lose.

Describe your perfect day at Virginia Tech. Opening day of football season, great weather, great friends, good food and of course, a Hokie victory!

Do you have any tailgating traditions? If so, tell us your best…

What motivates you to give back to help Virginia Tech Athletics? We get a lot of enjoyment out of attending Virginia Tech athletic events. We believe in doing our part to help student-athletes have the best possible experience. Their success enriches not only their lives, but also brings positive attention to the University and carries on Virginia Tech’s tradition of excellence.

I’m a Hokie Club member because … we are proud to be part of something larger than ourselves, and we’ve met so many great people through Hokie Club events.

My favorite Virginia Tech sports are … Football, Men’s Basketball and Women’s Basketball

My all-time favorite Virginia Tech student-athletes are … Reggie – men’s basketball’s Jimmy Carruth & football’s Corey Moore…that guy was a beast!; Jen – football’s Eddie Royal & men basketball’s Shawn Smith

Ways to Give: Gifts of Securities

Gifts of securities, such as stocks, bonds and mutual funds, can be a tax-wise way to support the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund. Gifts of securities can be donated without paying any capital gains taxes. Moreover, if a donor has held such stocks for more than one year, he or she can claim a tax deduction based on the securities’ fair market value - even though they were purchased for only a fraction of that amount. Securities held less than one year also can be donated, qualifying for a deduction typically based on what the donor paid for them.
Securities are used to make gifts of all sizes - from annual gifts for current operations to major gifts funding endowments. Gifts of securities typically involve publicly traded shares, such as those traded on the major exchanges, over-the-counter, and most common mutual funds. Gifts of privately held stock are also possible, although they are more complex and require more time to complete. For more information on gifts of securities, please contact the Hokie Club office at (540) 231-6618.

Ut Prosim Athletic Social
