Jasmin Harrell | Junior | Irvine, Calif.
Jasmin Harrell made the most of the opportunity put in front of her this season. Taking over as the No. 1 pitcher on the Virginia Tech softball team, Harrell responded with a season bettered by just one other pitcher in the history of the program.
Harrell won 31 games in the circle for the Hokies – only Angela Tincher (38 in 2007 and 2008) had ever won more in a single season. Harrell’s 288.1 innings pitched were the third-most ever tossed, and her 51 appearances were second most in single-season history. Tincher owns both of those marks as well.
This season, Harrell lowered her earned run average by more than a full run, posting a 1.97 ERA, and she struck out almost as many batters this year (227) than she had in her previous two years combined (242), while also throwing 10 shutouts and earning a save.
No day was more special than when she picked up both wins in a midweek doubleheader against Liberty, including a five-inning perfect game in the opener – the sixth perfect game in school history and the 30th solo no-hitter.
The effort helped her earn one of her three ACC Pitcher of the Week nods. She was also named to the NFCA Mid-Atlantic second team and the ACC All-Tournament Team this season.
