Kelly Conheeney | Junior | Ridgewood, N.J.
Kelly Conheeney is simply a goal- and points-scoring machine and is establishing herself as one of the best soccer players in the ACC. Actually, she may already be there.
Conheeney earned second-team All-ACC honors after an outstanding junior season in which she and her teammates made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Championships for only the second time in the program’s history. Conheeney led the way with a team-high 12 goals and 30 overall points. Her six assists ranked third on the team.
This past season, she became the first women’s soccer player at Tech to record 20 career goals and 20 career assists at Tech, and she became the all-time leader in career points (73) and game-winning goals (14).
Seven of those game winners came this past season. She scored the game winner as Tech stunned then-No. 9 West Virginia 1-0 in the first round of the NCAA Championships, and in the second round, she scored the game winner against Texas A&M in a 3-1 win to help the Hokies advance to the Sweet 16. She also scored the game winner in the Hokies’ 1-0 victory over then-No. 8 North Carolina.
Following the season, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America named her to the NCAA Division I All-Southeast second team. She became the first player in program history to garner such an award.
