Inside HOKIE SPORTS | Vol. 11 No. 1 | August 2018
On a spectacular Sunday afternoon in Southwest Virginia, the Virginia Tech football team held the first of its fall practices in preparation for the 2018 season, which starts in earnest Sept. 3 when the Hokies travel to Tallahassee, Florida to take on Florida State. Tech, which returns just 12 starters from 2017 and also saw its kicker graduate, enters the season ranked No. 17 nationally in the Amway Coaches’ Poll, while the Seminoles check in at No. 19. The Hokies were picked to finish second in the ACC’s Coastal Division at the ACC Kickoff media event in mid-July. Eight of Tech’s 12 returning starters are on offense, led by returning quarterback Josh Jackson and three senior offensive linemen, while Ricky Walker anchors a Tech defense looking to live up to the lofty standards set by past Tech defenses.
