SWIMMING & DIVING: VIRTUAL ALUMNI HAPPY HOURS John Schmidt (’79), Monogram Club swimming and diving representative (jschmidt01@cebridge.net ), indicated alumni happy hours are scheduled and being updated by Tech head coach Sergio Lopez Miro , with four scheduled to coincide with graduation/team years of alumni. Those on teams in two “timeframes” should join both calls. Numerous alumni have reached out, with updated contact information for themselves and other teammates. Those alumni wanting to be a part of these happy hours should send information to assistant coach Payton Brooks (pbrooks@ vt.edu) . Happy hours are arranged for 7 p.m. (EST) by “graduation/ team” years (i.e., before 1990 —Aug. 11; 1990-99 —Aug. 13; 2000- 09 —Aug. 18; 2010-20 —Aug. 20). THE SONS OF SATURDAY What started last October as a sports-centered podcast has evolved into a network dedicated to covering all angles of Tech! The Sons of Saturday mission is to portray and uplift the incredible work that Hokies are doing, both during their times in Blacksburg or across the globe. The creators’ perspectives are widespread as to backgrounds and current locations (East to West Coasts). Billy Ray Mitchell (’18) played on the offensive line for former head football coach Frank Beamer and current head coach Justin Fuente ; Pat Finn (’17) grew up a Hokie (his father was a Monogram winner in soccer) and was president of the 2017 Class; and Grayson Wimbish (’18) is a third- generation Hokie! The podcasts have highlighted current student- athletes (e.g., Tré Turner, Oscar Bradburn and Taylor Caskey), Tech athletics staff (e.g., Fuente, Mike Young, Corey Webster and Kenny Brooks, and football recruiting director John Iezzi); Tech alumni (e.g., Joey Slye & Homer Hickam); and Tech faculty members (e.g., Donna Wertalik & John Boyer). The upgraded website (www.sonsofsaturday.com ) includes the addition of “Scribes of Saturday,” which is a group of writers spanning multiple age groups and backgrounds collaborating together to generate articles focused on Tech’s past, present, and future. Most recently was the top-50 Hokie list, with features on some of the most impactful Hokies of all time! Check it all out at (website: https:// sonsofsaturday.com/; or on Twitter at @sonsofsat).
