As a sophomore last season, he earned All-America honors in the 800-meter run during both the indoor and outdoor seasons, finishing ninth at the NCAA Indoor Championships and 12th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Mosavel-Lo won his first ACC gold medal last year, as he pulled away from the field in the final 100 meters of the 800 at the ACC Outdoor Championships. He came in fourth in the event at the ACC Indoor Championships with a time of 1:48.74 (his personal-best time of 1:48.70 ranks fourth on the school’s all-time list). He should be ready to take the next step in continuing the Hokies’ tradition and hopefully becoming the league’s best 800 runner. JACORY PATTERSON Class: Sophomore Hometown: Columbia, South Carolina Specialty: 400 Outlook: Patterson burst onto the scene last year when he broke the U-20 world record in the 300-meter dash (32.49 seconds) in his first collegiate meet. He went on to set four school records as a freshman, along with winning two ACC gold medals. He swept the 400 at both league meets, winning the event at the league’s indoor meet in a school- record time of 46.04 seconds. During the outdoor season, he not only won the 400 at the ACC meet, but he also claimed a silver in the 200 at the same meet with a time—  20.57 seconds—that ranks as the second- fastest time in program history. His 18 points at the outdoor meet were the difference, as Tech edged Virginia by just six points. Patterson did not run great at the NCAA Championships during either season, so expect him to be motivated. Going into 2020, he stands as one of the top sprinters in the country. ISAIAH ROGERS Class: Senior Hometown: Smyrna, Georgia Specialties: Weight Throw, Shot Put, Hammer Throw Outlook: Rogers was a nice addition to the men’s roster last season after transferring from TCU in January. He made his presence felt quickly, too, being named the ACC Men’s Field Performer of the Year after winning silver medals in both the shot put and the weight throw at the ACC Indoor Championships. He added another silver medal to his resume in the shot put at the ACC Outdoor Championships. In just a season with the Hokies, he already ranks in the top 10 on the school’s all-time list in the shot put (both indoor and outdoor) and the weight throw—he’s close to owning the outdoor shot put mark with a top throw of 61 feet, 4.25 inches (18.70 meters), less than two inches from the school record. Hopefully, Rogers can add an ACC gold medal or two this season to his collection of silver medals, along with All-America recognition. PETER SEUFER Class: Redshirt Senior Hometown: Lynchburg, Virginia Specialties: 5,000, 10,000 Outlook: Unfortunately, Seufer only has indoor eligibility remaining, but he has excelled in indoor track and is coming off a dominating cross country season in which he won the ACC title for the second consecutive year and finished fourth at the NCAA Cross Country Championships—the best finish by a Tech men’s runner in program history. Seufer ran well during the indoor season last year, claiming a gold medal in the 3,000 at the ACC Indoor Championships to go with a silver medal in the 5,000. He holds the second-fastest time in the 5,000 in school history and the third-fastest 3,000-meter time. He is a three-time ACC gold medalist and three-time All-American in track and field and certainly wants to close his fabulous career on a positive note. Without question, he stands as the leader of this men’s team. WOMEN RACHEL BAXTER Class: Junior Hometown: Orange, California Specialty: Pole Vault Outlook: Baxter ranks as the ACC’s best women’s pole vaulter, having never finishedworse than third at any of the ACC’s championshipmeets. The Hokies missed her during the outdoor season this past spring after she sat out the league’s outdoor meet while recovering from an injury suffered in a biking accident. She broke the school record during the indoor season when she vaulted 4.47 meters (14 feet, 8 inches) at the ACC Indoor Championships, claiming a gold medal, and she went on to finish sixth at the NCAA Indoor Championships, earning first-teamAll- America honors. Now fully healed, the three-time All-American heads into this season looking to break the school’s outdoor record, win more ACC gold medals, and possibly claim an NCAA medal as well. ESZTER BAJNOK Class: Senior Hometown: Kethely, Hungary Specialties: Long Jump, Triple Jump Outlook: Bajnok has been a model of consistency since arriving at Tech, breaking school records as a freshman and building on them Continued on page 44
