inside.hokiesports.com 35 WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETE OF THE YEAR RACHEL POCRATSKY (Sr.; Gaithersburg, Maryland) • The Tech women’s track and field program has finished no worse than fourth in each of the past three ACC Outdoor Championships and no worse than third in each of the past two ACC Indoor Championships. The women’s team, which finished tied for 15th at the NCAA Indoor Championships, has scored in eight consecutive NCAA indoor meets. • Rachel Pocratsky won an NCAA bronze medal in her final season, coming in third in the 800-meter run at the NCAA Indoor Championships. That performance marked her first podium finish and enabled her to earn first-team All-America honors. • Pocratsky also won four ACC gold medals this season. She won two gold medals at the ACC Outdoor Championships, sweeping the 800 and the 1,500 for the second consecutive year. She also won the 800 at the ACC Indoor Championships, and she was the anchor on the women’s distance medley relay team that won the gold medal. • Sarah Edwards became the first Tech women’s runner ever to win the mile at the ACC Indoor Championships, as she took the gold medal with a time of 4:41.56, and she went on to finish sixth in the event at the NCAA Indoor Championships to become a first-team All-American. Edwards won a silver medal in the 1,500 at the ACC Outdoor Championships, finishing second behind Pocratsky, and she earned second-team All-America honors in the same event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. • Rachel Baxter set the school record in the pole vault (4.47 meters; 14 feet, 8 inches) to win a gold medal at the ACC Indoor Championships—the first gold medal of her career. Her sixth-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships enabled her to become a first-team All-American. • Eszter Bajnokwas the ACCWomen’s Field Performer of the Meet at the ACC Outdoor Championships in May. She broke her own school record in the triple jump with a leap of 13.66 meters (44 feet, 9.75 inches) on her way to a silver medal in the event, and she also finished fourth in the long jump.
