TRAINERS, MANAGERS & VIDEO LETTERWINNERS Virginia Tech has exceptional programs within the athletics department for students interested in being involved with, and supporting, Virginia Tech’s 22 NCAA sport teams. These roles include trainers who are interested in sports medicine as a volunteer activity or career; managers who actively assist the coaching staff and student-athletes of individual teams at practice and game events; and video personnel who oversee the capture of video from practice drills and game events and their subsequent advanced analysis. Though rigorous training and assessment, deserving managers , trainers and video staff are designated as letterwinners each year and are presented with letter jackets at annual ceremonies, as well as recognitions in subsequent years of service. This past April, the membership of the Monogram Club approved a new director position on the Board of Directors to represent all managers, trainers and video letterwinners, past and present. This brings the list of directors on the Board to 18. The Club is seeking alumni in these three letterwinner categories who would be interested in being considered for this new director position, with an initial term of service of 2019-22. Interested individuals can reach out to the Club (Attn: nomination committee) via email ( vtmonogramclub@vt.edu ) or telephone (540-231-6070), as well as through Board members (see the Monogram Club website). WRESTLING The 2018-19 Virginia Tech wrestling season was very successful, bringing home numerous awards and championships. The Club recognizes these extensive honors and congratulates the team and staff on an excellent year. The team placed second at the ACC Championships and 11th at the NCAA Championships. Individual honors included: Mekhi Lewis (ACC champion at 165 pounds; ACC Wrestler of the Year; Virginia Tech’s first wrestling NCAA national champion; NCAA All-American; Most Outstanding Wrestler at NCAA Championships); David McFadden (ACC champ at 174 pounds; NCAA All-American); Zach Zavatsky (ACC champ at 184 pounds; NCAA All-American; Scholar All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association); Mitch Moore (ACC Freshman of Year); Tom Sleigh and Billy Miller (Scholar All-Americans by the NWCA & ACC All-Academic Team); and Korbin Myers (ACC All-Academic Team). Congratulations to head coach Tony Robie for these individual and team honors and for being named ACC Coach of The Year! FROM MONOGRAM CLUB PRESIDENT BRIAN WALTER Now is a very exciting time for the Monogram Club! Our membership continues to grow, and the Club continues to provide more opportunities for former student-athletes to engage with current programs and alumni through reunions and various events. I really want to thank Mike Saunders for his work these past four years as the Club president. During his tenure, Mike really breathed life into our organization and provided a great foundation and vision for growth into the future. We are poised as a Club to continue our growth rate and provide some really great opportunities for former student-athletes. As I begin my term as president, I’m extremely excited about our direction and vision and welcome the opportunity to serve our student-athlete alumni. Our Club has some very good and motivated sport directors and coaching staffs who are excited to interact with our alumni. I encourage all former student-athletes to engage with our programs and to contact your sport director for more information about upcoming sport-specific events. We also invite you to join the Monogram Club to enjoy the benefits of membership. Contact President Brian Walter at bwalter@vt.edu . MONOGRAM CLUB MEMBERSHIP 2019-20 The Monogram Club’s mission is to engage former and current student-athletes through networking and fellowship events to celebrate Hokie traditions and promote the value of the lifelong Virginia Tech student-athlete experience.
