40 Inside Hokie Sports The Virginia Tech Athletics Department completed a couple of major facilities projects in 2018-19— specifically the final touches on a $20 million project that added a new grandstand area, luxury suites, chair-back seats, a club level down the first-base line, and more to English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park. • Also on the baseball front, the department oversaw enhancements to the James C. Weaver Baseball Center, converting a first- floor storage area to a 40-locker baseball team room and lounge, a restroom and shower area, a laundry room and equipment storage area, a sports medicine training room, and a team meeting room and video area. • In addition, the department put the final touches on an $18 million renovation of Rector Field House and an adjacent softball hitting facility. A throws area was added onto Rector Field House along with a permanent lobby to the facility, an expanded sports medicine training room, halftime rooms for lacrosse and soccer, and administrative space for track and other events. The softball hitting facility includes cages for batting and pitching practice, with enough space to take infield practice during inclement weather. • Two ACC Network control rooms have been built on the bottom floor of the south end zone of Lane Stadium—part of a $10 million project to help the athletics department get ready for the launch of the ACC Network in August. A portion of that money went to the purchasing of equipment, camera platforms, wiring, and more. RECTOR FIELD HOUSE JAMES C.
