16 Inside Hokie Sports BASKETBALL OVERALL RECORD: 16-16 ACC RECORD: 7-13 (12th in the ACC) MEN’S MEN’S BASKETBALL ATHLETE OF THE YEAR TYRECE RADFORD (r-Fr., Baton Rouge, Louisiana) SEASON HIGHLIGHTS • Mike Young’s 16 wins were the most by a first-year Tech coach since 1999-2000 and tied for the fifth-most by a first-year head coach in program history (25 head coaches). • The Hokies finished in the top 15 nationally in three categories, committing the fourth-fewest turnovers per game (9.9), owning the fifth-best assist-to-turnover ratio (1.48), and averaging 9.8 3-pointers per game—the 13th-most in the country. • The Hokies upset then-No. 3 Michigan State 71-66 in the first round of the Maui Jim Maui Invitational—a win that marked Tech’s first win over a nonconference opponent ranked in the top five since 1964. • Tech set a school and ACC record with 21 3-pointers in its win over Delaware State on Nov. 20. Nahiem Alleyne and Isaiah Wilkins each hit five in the victory. • Landers Nolley II earned honorable mention All-ACC honors and a spot on the ACC All-Freshman Team. Nolley led the Hokies in scoring at 15.5 points per game. • Tyrece Radford averaged 10.2 points per game, and he led the Hokies in both rebounding (6.2) and field-goal percentage (60.4%). He finished with 55 assists and just 25 turnovers.
