Felser Jr. • Ted and Ann Boyer • Shelby Miller The Hokie Club again thanks all those who contribute in support of Virginia Tech Athletics and would like to take a moment to remind donors that March 31 is the deadline for making gifts and thus receiving eligible benefits for the 2019-20 year, including football tickets, seat locations, parking, etc. Emery, Magarity and Mabrey receive ACC recognition Virginia Tech women’s basketball players Taylor Emery, Regan Magarity and Dara Mabrey all received recognition from the ACC for their performances on the court during the regular season. Emery, a senior from Tampa, Florida, earned first-team All-ACC honors, as voted on by the league’s head coaches, and second-team honors, as voted on by a blue ribbon panel of media members who cover the league. She became the first Tech player in program history to make the All-ACC first team after a regular season in which she averaged a team-best 17.9 points per game. Magarity, a redshirt senior from Norrkoping, Sweden, became the fifth Tech player ever to receive All-ACC recognition—Emery earned it last season. Magarity received second-team recognition from both the blue ribbon panel and the coaches after averaging a double-double during the regular season (14.4 ppg, 12.9 rpg). She led the conference in rebounding. by Jimmy Robertson Mabrey, a freshman from Belmar, New Jersey, made the All- Freshman Team after a regular season in which she averaged 11.8 points per game and ranked second in the nation in 3-point field-goal percentage (47.7 percent). Basketball players make All-ACC Academic Teams Seven Virginia Tech basketball players—four on the men’s team and three on the women’s—made the All-ACC Academic Teams for their respective sports. Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team include a 3.0 grade-point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletics achievements during the most recent season also factor into the selection process. AhmedHill, JustinRobinson,NickeilAlexander-Walker andWabissa Bede all made the men’s academic team. Hill graduated last May with a degree in communication studies and is on track to get a master’s in agricultural leadership and community education this summer. Robinson graduated in December with a degree in communication studies and a minor in business leadership and continues pursuit of a master’s degree in business leadership. Alexander-Walker and Bede—two sophomores—are both pursuing degrees in communication studies, withminors in business leadership. Regan Magarity, Taylor Emery and Dara Mabrey each made the women’s academic team. Magarity, a three-time selection, graduated last May with a degree in multimedia journalism and continues work on a master’s degree in agriculture and life sciences. Emery, a two- time honoree, will graduate this spring with a degree in creative writing, while Mabrey, who hasn’t declared a major, made the team for the first time.
