For all of her individual success that she has found of late, Sheppard remains committed to the team and playing for her sisters. “We have persevered through a lot of things and it its even sweeter that this was the team and my senior year,” she said when asked about the historic moments. “I said before ‘These are things I’ve dreamed about and Coach Brooks and I have talked about in many conversations in his office’ so this one feels much better and it just feels good to win with those girls in the locker room.” Sheppard owns several program records that include the most 3’s in a single game, the most 3’s in a single season, the most 3’s in a career, she ranks inside the top 10 in 3-point shooting in ACC history and is one of eight women to play at Virginia Tech to ever score 1,400 points. “I think her lasting legacy for me as a coach is she will be one of the prominent people that helped change the culture of Virginia Tech women’s basketball in this era,” Brooks said. “I think overall she’s going to be one of if not the most decorated women’s basketball player to leave here and I would not be surprised if you see her number hanging in the rafters.” She has been the leading scorer on the two best Tech teams to compete in the ACC, spearheading the 11-win 2019-20 season and once again leading the team in 2020-21. Whether it’s putting the ball in the basket or using her broadcast journalism degree as a television personality, there is no doubt that Aisha Sheppard has a bright future ahead of her.
