The 36-hole qualifier was held in one day on the par-71 course. Hollandsworth, a graduate student from nearby Floyd, Virginia, got off to a great start, registering birdies on three of her final five holes to shoot a 2-under-par 69 after the first round. Her 69 was the top score of the 50 golfers in the qualifier and gave her a one-shot lead over Allie Knight heading into the afternoon’s second round. In the second round, she shot a 1-over-par 72—tying for the second- best score of the round. She was at 2-over-par for her round after 12 holes, but recorded a birdie on the par-5 No. 14 and registered pars over the remaining four holes to seal the win. Hollandsworth’s combined score of 1-under-par 141 enabled her to finish three shots ahead of Karoline Stormo, whose second-round 70 was the best score of the second round. The top two finishers in each sectional qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open, so Stormo claimed the second spot out of a field that included both amateurs and professionals. The U.S. Women’s Open will be held May 30-June 2 at Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina. The win marked the fourth straight tournament in which Hollandsworth finished in the top 15, including three tournaments in which she was under par. During the spring season for the Hokies, she came in eighth at the Bryan National Collegiate at 1-under; 13th at the Clemson Invitational at 3-under and tied for 14th at the ACC Championship at 4-over-par, helping Tech to earn a second consecutive NCAA regional berth. by Jimmy Robertson ACC announces All-Academic Teams The Atlantic Coast Conference announced all-academic teams for men’s and women’s indoor track, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and wrestling in early May, and numerous Virginia Tech student-athletes earned a spot on those teams for their respective sports.
