inside.hokiesports.com 3 The completed $20 million Student-Athlete Performance Center opened this spring and has already made a positive impact on our student-athletes, coaches, and staff as we aim to serve the nutritional needs of all our varsity programs. Featuring a full-kitchen for meal preparation, a large dining space, and floor to ceiling windows that offer panoramic views of Lane Stadium, the facility is a showpiece for our department. It will be welcoming to recruits who are visiting as well as inviting to donors who may attend hospitality events in the upcoming months. LAYING the FOUNDATION … VIRGINIA TECH ATHLETICS: Student-Athlete Performance Center VIRGINIA TECH FOOTBALL: Weight & Meeting Room Expansion F acilities are a part — it’s not the only part, but it’s a big part —of recruiting. It shows a commitment to servicing the student-athlete in terms of making sure all their needs are met through their athletic development, their academic development, their social development, and their spiritual development, and I think this is another huge step for Virginia Tech in demonstrating the commitment to the young people and their families who decide to attend Virginia Tech and participate in intercollegiate athletics. Justin Fuente, Virginia Tech Football Head Coach W e see the new performance center as a transformational facility for our program. It will give us a chance to provide our players with optimal nutrition, as well as being a state-of- the-art gathering place for all student-athletes at Virginia Tech. Pete D’Amour, Virginia Tech Softball Head Coach Recently we completed a $4.5 million renovation to our Virginia Tech football team meeting spaces and weight room. The project doubled the functional workout space, increasing the total square footage to over 12,300. Additionally, the project created space for a nutrition oasis, dedicated to football, located outside the weight room where our Hokies can easily refuel after training and practice. The other part of the project was a renovation to the team meeting space. The nine position rooms are now all equipped with fully- integrated audio/visual equipment that allows our various position groups to watch presentations simultaneously. Updated furniture and graphics complete the comfort and aesthetics of the new space and blend seamlessly into other renovations of the Merryman and Jamerson athletic centers that were previously completed.
