Inside HOKIE SPORTS | Vol. 11 No. 2 | October 2018
Virginia Tech fans had been looking forward to seeing Notre Dame make its first ever visit to Lane Stadium for quite some time, and the atmosphere, as one might expect, was certainly electric. The Saturday evening scene featured fireworks, a taped message from Metallica, and a striping of the stadium by Tech fans – part of a marketing-driven initiative that made its debut in Blacksburg and turned out to be extremely successful. Unfortunately, the day ended on a down note, as the No. 6 Irish knocked off the Hokies 45-23, pulling away in the second half. Tech fans, though, enjoyed a pregame aura unlike many others, and many figure to return to Lane throughout November to help the Hokies in their quest to win a Coastal Division championship.
