A delicious game-day tradition. WRESTLING ATHLETE OF THE YEAR HUNTER BOLEN (r-So.; Floyd, Virginia) SEASON HIGHLIGHTS • Tech opened the season with three victories over ranked teams, including a 21-15 upset of then-No. 3 Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio. Joey Prata secured that victory with a 5-2 decision at 125 pounds in the final match of the day. • Tech held the inaugural “Mat on the Mound” at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park on Nov. 10— its first wrestling match on a baseball field—and the Hokies beat then-No. 21 Northwestern 21-18 after a victory by heavyweight John Borst sealed it. • The Hokies’ win over West Virginia on Jan. 11 propelled them to No. 3 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association national poll, tying for the program’s highest ranking and marking the highest ranking under current head coach Tony Robie. • Hunter Bolen won Tech’s only individual title at the ACC Championships, beating NC State’s Trent Hidlay 2-1 in the title match at 184 pounds. Bolen went 24-2 on the season, and the redshirt sophomore spent much of it ranked No. 1 nationally in his weight class. • David McFadden became the 13th wrestler in program history to reach 100 career wins. His 16-7 major decision of West Virginia’s Nick Kiussis on Jan. 11 helped him reach the milestone. McFadden went 21-5 in his senior season and finished with 107 career victories. WRESTLING OVERALL RECORD: 11-3 CONFERENCE RECORD: 2-3 (fourth in ACC)
