12 Inside Hokie Sports THE OFFICIAL KIDS’ CLUB OF VIRGINIA TECH ATHLETICS TWO PLANS TO CHOOSE FROM ORANGE LEVEL: FREE MAROON LEVEL: $35 Visit hokiesports.com/hokiekidsclub to join! “It honestly still feels surreal that I get to finish my college career competing for a national championship with my team. I am so thankful to have been a part of this journey, and I wouldn’t trade any of my experiences with this team for the world. To get to go out making history with my teammates—I honestly couldn’t have dreamed up a better way to end my college career.” Now, with regionals behind them, the Hokies turn their attention to a duel in the desert to decide the national champion. “I ammost looking forward to experiencing every moment and taking it all in,” DiNunzio said about her excitement for nationals. “It will be very special to tee it up in Arizona with my teammates, and I cannot wait to see what we can do. There will definitely be strong competition there, but I know us Hokies belong there too.” The Hokies, ranked a program-best 14th in the country entering the championship, most certainly do belong. They have placed fifth or better in every tournament since March, including a pair of runner-up finishes at the Clemson Invitational and the Cavalier Match Play. In addition to their team’s success, Mahar and DiNunzio were named All-ACC in late-April. It was the first time a Virginia Tech women’s golfer, let alone two, made the 15-member team. “It’s an honor to have been selected for All-ACC,” DiNunzio acknowledged. “The ACC is such a great conference with no shortage of talent, and to be one of those to make the team, along with Emily, means so much. I know there will be many more All-ACC Hokies in the coming years.” Mahar echoed DiNunzio’s sentiment. “Making history and memories like that are what I came to VT for, and to share that with Becca, is so awesome,” the Aussie senior said.
